Q: What are your daily tasks in the EKIN program?
A: No two days are alike. Being an EKIN is one of the most unique jobs at the company because it’s our job to bring the brand to life in key cities for Nike. We manifest experiences and create opportunities aligned with the brand’s strategy but shaped by our personal preferences because of the autonomy of the role, we truly get to blaze our own trail. One day I’m strategizing on Air Max Day and how I can take over an abandoned warehouse to create an unforgettable experience in the city. Another day can be dedicated to a focus group with consumers, influencers and retailers understanding their preference on a shoe and then using those insights to inform new product creation decisions.
Q: Why did you choose to work for Nike?
A: I’m obsessed with storytelling and bringing creative visions to life that impact the masses. Nike is the best storytelling brand in the world, and I want to be a part of the team that keeps Nike in the forefront of creativity, storytelling, and innovation.
Q: What advice do you have for VIM members who would like to intern/work for Nike?
A: Get creative on how you can translate your experiences and passions into working for the brand. I was the Director of Special Events for RHA and I used my experience producing Kevin Hart & Chance The Rapper as experiences that can tie back into Nike, especially since Kevin Hart was working on a collab during the same time for example.
Q: What characteristics and/or skills does Nike look for in an intern? What about a full time employee?
A: It depends on which function you want to go into, but passion for sport, the ambition to be great, and curiosity are common denominators you’ll see here.
Q: What is the company culture like at Nike?
A: “Work hard, play hard.” We have a lot of fun, like college but with a lot of money fun…but it’s balanced out by the work we do. We truly obsess over the details on how we can use sport to change people’s lives by bringing inspiration and innovation to all athletes.
