The Experience of NYFW24
The general consensus is that New York Fashion Week 2024 was indeed a hit. NYFW 2024 featured shows from Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Tommy Hilfiger, and more talented designers. One of my very close friends had the opportunity to go to New York City for fashion week to assist her aunt who does celebrity and model nails, so I asked her some questions about her take on fashion week!
Upon her arrival, she had no idea of what to expect New York to be like, but she knew she would be exposed to a busier, and more different scene than she was used to. She explained to me how excited and grateful she was to have been given the opportunity to go to New York and have this fun, chaotic experience.
I asked her how it was like seeing the models and audience dressed up for fashion week and she replied with “It was amazing.” As expected. She explained how there were so many great pieces from some of the best designers and she was able to see a lot of the looks hanging up before showtime, but once the models put on their looks, it “transformed.” The models know
how to wear those pieces and adjust and become comfortable before the rehearsal started. As for the audience, she stated that they wore the most “extravagant pieces.” Stars such as Brooke Shields, Anika Toni Rose, Jamie Alexander, Nigel Barker and Liza Koshy - who actually walked a show - were all in attendance, looking stunning.
Her favorite show she attended was Kelly Cutrone and Anna Delvey because of the difference in looks they portrayed compared to the other looks for fashion week. They hosted three shows: Private Policy, Shao, and Untitled&Co. Private Policy had some of her favorite looks while she explained that Untitled&Co. was more edgy and “unserious,” with one model wearing a robe and slippers and the other wearing a glamorous tulle dress with a bedazzled sweatshirt over top.
Overall, she greatly enjoyed her experience visiting New York and especially being able to work for fashion week. One thing she found interesting was the amount of work people behind the scene of the show(s) put in. Each show has a call time nearly five hours before the show starts and within those hours, every team (makeup, hair, nails) has to follow a specific look and get it perfect before rehearsal. She states working for NYFW was an “experience of a lifetime,” and that it was such an honor working alongside such talented people in the fashion industry. NYFW 2024, we love you.
