WINTOUR IS COMING
Met Monday, every fashionista’s favorite holiday, has quickly come and gone once again. Although the eclectic fashion and bolstering themes hold everyone captive with anticipation, the Met Gala entices me because of the dominating event’s creator. Anna Wintour is my personal definition of a business superwoman, and has gone above and beyond in the fashion publication industry.
Anna Wintour, a British journalist, is the longtime running editor in chief of American Vogue magazine since 1988, preceding her time as the EIC of British Vogue. Wintour has been involved in numerous publications internationally throughout her career, having positions at various publications internationally, such as Viva, Harper’s Bazaar, and House and Garden. Today, Wintour is also the global chief content officer of Condé Nast Publication.
In 1995, Wintour joined the board and was named a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met) in New York City and continues to raise funds for its Costume Institute. Along with other philanthropic endeavors, she transformed the annual Costume Institute Ball fund-raising gala into an internationally chronicled, high-profiled, red-carpet event—now labeled as the Met Gala, and designating the first Monday of May as the day of the gala.
As a respected and well-renowned fashion mogul, Wintour has created a certain standard in the luxury fashion industry, and the Met Gala is undeniably the most influential fashion event for high-profile celebrities, designers, publications and socialites.
